Text Box: Are you at risk for Osteoporosis? 

Answer yes to any of the following questions and you are at an increased risk for developing osteoporosis.  You should visit with your physician about more comprehensive screening. 

You are past menopause.
You are of Caucasian or Asian decent.
You have a family history of osteoporosis. 
You have a small thin frame.
You do not do weight-bearing exercise on a regular basis.
You drink alcohol (more than 2 drinks per day) and / or smoke. 
You do not eat enough calcium each day (2 to 3 - 8 oz cups) or get enough vitamin D (400 - 800 IU or 20 minutes of sun exposure to your face and hands) each day. 
You have lost height.
You are taking hormone replacement therapy every day or prescription medicine for osteoporosis.
You have had a fracture as an adult.
You have a first-degree relative with a history of a fragility fracture. 
You weigh less then 127 pounds.
You have taken steroids for more than 3 months. 
You have impaired vision.
You had estrogen deficiency at an early age (before 45). 
You have dementia, poor health, are frail, or had a recent fall. 

Screening Recommendations:
Women over 65 years of age
Women between 60 and 65 with increased risk
Below 60 with numerous risk factors - talk with your family doctor
